Project Summary:
In The Measure of Horseshoes is a site-specific environmental artwork created for Funan’s Grand Stairs as part of Creative Intersections: Hobbyhorse, Rhythm and Forms of Play, a mall-wide activation presented during Singapore Art Week 2026.
The project transforms the entire staircase into an abstracted horse’s body, turning a transitional architectural space into a playful, immersive experience. Visitors are invited to participate in a simple visual game—spotting and counting horseshoes scattered throughout the stairway—encouraging pause, observation, and interaction within a high-traffic public environment.
Drawing inspiration from classic children’s picture puzzle books such as Finding Waldo, the artwork introduces moments of curiosity and delight while remaining accessible to a broad audience. By layering illustration, spatial design, and interactive mechanics, the work reimagines the staircase not just as a passageway, but as a site of play, rhythm, and communal discovery.
